Mantra Paintings

Heart Sutra Gold Wave
Heart Sutra Red
Milk and Honey
Gloucester Cathedral, England
The Cloisters, New York City
Kyoto, Japan

The “mantra” paintings each have one hundred and eight repetitions of the Heart Sutra mantra or the Om Shanti mantra embedded in them. One hundred and eight represents one round of prayer beads. These sacred syllables have been written on Simplicity sewing paper or tissue paper and sealed within the body of the painting. Similar to the process when relics, prayers and precious objects of spiritual masters are buried within Asian “stupa” monuments.

These mantras continue to be written at specific sacred sites, at the feet of art masterworks and in wounded places around the world.
